An Introduction by Chipper Long, Executive Director

Friends,

We must end homelessness. There is no reason that anyone should have to sleep in a car, on a park bench, under a highway overpass, in abandoned buildings…anywhere! I have the privilege of serving on the Bishop’s Committee for Affordable Housing for the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. One of my friends, Bob Kucab, wrote the following article. He is spot-on, and please consider taking the actions that he suggests.

We can all do something to address the plight of homeless brothers and sisters. HomelesscChildren are the most vulnerable, and my heart hurts when I know that there are children who live in cars, wash up in the bathrooms of stores, and then go to school with some semblance of everyday life.

There is nothing ordinary about homelessness, hunger, or poverty. Yet, our society operates on a doctrine of “abnormals” when people have to be on street corners, live in cardboard tents, and go without medical care.

At Anson County Homes of Hope, we are committed to the residents of our great community. I always say that we are a “can do” community because we join hands to meet that need when there is a need. Let us continue to do so until none of us is a statistic in a “Point-in_time” count, hungry, or without the basics needed to live.

For a better world,

Chipper Long

Executive Director
