Hushion Cottage

In 2018, we purchased this foreclosure property from Uwharrie Bank. We immediately began plans to renovate both units completely. Neither unit had been upgraded or adequately maintained for years. Over several months, we evaluated our options, and after revision after revision, work began on Unit A. Our initial plan was to convert this unit into two bedrooms, but in the end, we opted to keep it as a one-bedroom unit. We also decided to make both of these units the first affordable housing apartments in our program. In 2019, our first resident moved in and is still a happy camper! Bobby Horton did these renovations. Bobby worked diligently and tirelessly to ensure that everything in the unit was fresh and operating correctly before allowing us to vet a new occupant. His continuous attention to detail and cost made this unit a successful component of our first renovation effort. We highly recommend  Bobby and his team. They rocked the house!

In late 2020, renovations began on Unit B. It was initially a loft apartment with exciting and challenging configurations. Bobby Horton and his crew started the upgrades, and later Sean Pond and Crow Remodeling stepped in and completed the project much to Sean’s original conception. The property was completed in May of 2021 and received its first occupant in June 2021. A two-bedroom loft apartment with three bathrooms, two kitchens, and in need of a lot of TLC was converted into a three-bedroom two-bath home with complete HVAC and window upgrades.

These are pictures and videos of that progress. Special thanks go to Kilwinning Lodge, David Davis Enterprises, and the NC Department of Public Safety for the energy they put into making this project a reality. We are presently adding landscaping and a new parking lot configuration to mark this project “complete!”
